Our Organic Dairy Farm in Hundham

The Meisterhof lies on the edge of Hundham in the Leitzach Valley. We keep around 18 dairy cows of the local Miesbacher Fleckvieh breed and have farmed to Naturland organic standards since 2009.

From the 16th century to today

The Meisterhof is one of the old farms of Hundham, and its history goes back to the 16th century. Holiday guests have been staying with us for around 100 years.

  1. 16thcentury

The old Meisterhof stands in the centre of Hundham.

  2. 1970

The village becomes too cramped, so the farm moves out to the edge of Hundham, where it still stands today.

  3. 2009

We convert to organic farming and have worked to Naturland standards ever since.

  4. Today

Around 18 dairy cows live in the cowshed. The holiday house next door has three apartments for guests.

Around 18 Miesbacher Fleckvieh cows

Our roughly 18 dairy cows are Miesbacher Fleckvieh, the typical breed of the Alpine foothills. They are milked twice a day, in the morning and in the evening.

If you would like to watch, just come to the cowshed at milking time, and Alfons will happily explain what he is doing. In summer the cows go out to pasture.

When a calf is born

Calves are born here regularly, and with a bit of luck you may be there for a birth. Children are welcome to stroke the calves and help with feeding.

Fresh milk every morning and evening

In the morning and in the evening you can fetch fresh milk from us, straight from the cowshed at milking time. It is raw milk, straight from the cow.

Helping out is welcome

If you feel like it, you can help with feeding and mucking out in the cowshed. In summer, children ride out to the pasture on the tractor with the farmer, and everyone is welcome to watch the milking and ask questions.

Eggs and honey

When Marlene’s hens are laying well, we have fresh eggs, so just ask.

The honey is made by Martin, our beekeeper in the neighbourhood, and we are happy to tell you where to get a jar.

There are no beehives on the farm itself, which is good to know if someone in the family has an allergy.

The farm through the year

Here you can see the farm, our cows and the meadows around Hundham at different times of year.

What Naturland means

Naturland is an association for organic farming based in Gräfelfing near Munich. It was founded at the turn of 1982/83, and today around 120,000 farmers in more than 60 countries work to its standards. In Germany and Austria more than 7,000 farms belong to it.

A farm that joins Naturland converts the whole business, with all its land and livestock. Synthetic chemical pesticides and synthetic nitrogen fertiliser are banned. At least half of the animal feed has to come from the farm itself, and dairy cows go out to pasture during the growing season whenever the weather and the ground allow.

Staying on the farm

The three holiday apartments are in a house of their own on the farm, each with its own entrance and 90 to 120 m² of space.
