Winter at the Farm: Skiing, Cross-Country and Sledging

When there is snow, the local council grooms a cross-country ski trail only about 150 m from the farm, and children go sledging on the slope next to the farm. Spitzingsee is about 20 minutes away by car for downhill skiing, and the Sudelfeld a good half hour. From Munich the drive takes about an hour, depending on traffic.

The farm in winter, from above

We cut this short film from our own drone footage. It runs for just over half a minute and has music but no spoken words.

The Meisterhof in winter (34 seconds, with music). What the film shows: The drone flies across a snowy meadow towards the farmhouse and the holiday house under a deep blue sky. It rises over the snowy roofs and then looks down on the village with its meadows and the mountains at the end of the valley, against the light. At the end the picture blurs and our logo appears with the words “Meisterhof Ferienwohnungen”.

The trail by the farm

When there is snow, the local council grooms a cross-country ski trail only about 150 m from the farm. There are also several loops around Hundham, which officially start at the car park by the Leonhardi chapel, only a few hundred metres from the farm, and a longer trail via Elbach all the way to Fischbachau.

Across the municipality there are around 44 kilometres of trails for classic and skating technique. With the guest card you use the trails in Fischbachau, Schliersee and Bayrischzell free of charge.

Sledging

Right by the farm there is a slope where you and your children are welcome to go sledging once there is enough snow. We are happy to lend you a sledge, just let us know.

For a long run, head to the Kesselalm hut on the Breitenstein. The track from Birkenstein up to the hut is cleared in winter, and after a break at the hut you sledge back down it to the valley. You walk up, pulling your sledge behind you.

The Kesselalm website tells you whether the hut is open.

Ski areas nearby

The closest is Spitzingsee, about 15 kilometres from the farm. The Sudelfeld near Bayrischzell is around 25 kilometres away and is one of the largest ski areas in Bavaria.

Both belong to the Alpen Plus ski pass group, and the guest card gets you 10 per cent off multi-day passes there.

In winter 2024/25 a free ski bus ran on days when the lifts were open, from Wörnsmühl via Hundham and Fischbachau to the Waldkopf lift at the Sudelfeld. The ski and cross-country buses in Fischbachau and Bayrischzell are free with the guest card, and the tourist information office in Fischbachau has this season’s timetable.

Winter walks in the Leitzach Valley

You can walk up the Schwarzenberg from the farm, in winter too. The municipality clears a winter path from Hundham, and two more lead to the Kesselalm and the Tregleralm.

After fresh snow not every path is cleared straight away, so pack sturdy winter boots.

After a day outdoors

All three apartments have their own entrance and 90 to 120 m² of space. Each comes with its own garage, so you will not have to scrape ice off the windscreen in the morning.

The ground-floor apartment has the green tiled stove, which has been renewed and which you are welcome to light.
